Over 50 additional SGB cast-resin transformers for the largest South African coal mine

South Africa has enormous mineral resources with the country’s export performance mainly being based on this sector. The SGB-SMIT Group also contributes to the success of the mining sector and supports the local mining companies with transformers which ensure reliable energy supply underground and in open-cast mining even under the most adverse circumstances.

In South Africa and the entire Sub-Saharan Africa, SGB-SMIT cooperates with “Red Metal Mining Engineers“, a planning agency specialized in the mining industry and associated industries. Previously, Red Metal Mining awarded SGB Regensburg orders for the first phases of renewal of all the transformers of this mine. Now, the company has received another major contract.

During the previous phase of the scheduled transformer replacement, SGB and Red Metal Mining were already able to deliver 20 cast-resin transformers. Obviously to the full satisfaction of the customer, as in week 23, the colleagues from Regensburg received major follow-up orders.

For the current phase, a package of cast-resin transformers in the performance range from 200 kVA to 2,550 kVA was commissioned. Delivery is scheduled for this December, commissioning at the beginning of 2018. Moreover, an order was placed for a 20 MVA mains transformer for the first time for this customer.
